STRATFORD – At least one person was flown to hospital, witnesses say, after a serious crash on the outskirts of Stratford closed part of a highway for several hours on Monday.

The crash, just east of the city, happened around 11:30 a.m., according to a resident who lives on Line 34 (Highway 7/8) near the intersection of Road 110. Jim, who declined to give his last name, said he heard “three big thumps and came out to find a car upside down.”

The grey, four-door sedan came to rest on its roof in the front yard of a home along the highway. Backpacks and shoes could be seen piled on the lawn outside of the car.

The resident said an air ambulance took one of four people away and noted the corner where the crash occurred is not a dangerous spot.

Perth County Ontario Provincial Police officers closed the highway from Road 109 to Road 111 to investigate.

New details in fatal boat crash

Police continue their investigation into a weekend boating incident that killed two people and on Tuesday stated they were residents of Chatham and Stoney Point who were 39 and 55 years old, respectively.

It was just before 6 p.m. on Saturday when emergency crews were called to a “single vessel collision” on Pocket Bay in Walpole Island First Nation. Ontario Provincial Police officers from Lambton County, officials from the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Trenton and U.S. Coast Guard members were among those called to the scene.

The two victims of the crash were pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Their names have not been made public.

Tuesday, police said anyone with information relating to the incident can contact investigators at 1-888-310-1122.
