The Municipality of Kincardine is ready to host a now annual Pride Month celebration.
Kincardine will host their 5th annual Pride Parade and Celebration on June 24. The municipality has already held Pride flag raising ceremonies at numerous locations across Kincardine. On June 12, flag raising ceremonies for Pride Month were conducted at Kincardine Branch of the Bruce County Public Library, the Davidson Centre Track and Kincardine Fire and Emergency Services Station 11 Fire Hall in Tiverton.
The Kincardine Pride Parade starts at 11 a.m. at the No Frills parking lot on June 24, with following celebrations at Dunsmoor Park, including vendors and games. An all ages family dance will follow from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Kincardine Pavilion.
“The Pride flag is like a lighthouse beacon, and signifies that this community is a safe harbour, a welcome shelter to people who are often on guard for their safety, unsure as to how they will be received, wondering if they will be judged, harassed, bullied, or rejected,” said Fort Papalia, President of Kincardine Pride.
“My hope for the future is to fully, and without prejudice, enjoy the character and personality of every person, creating a stronger, safer, and more welcoming community. On behalf of Council and staff of the Municipality of Kincardine, I would like to wish everyone a season of being proud of who you are,” added Mayor Kenneth Craig.
