The London Oakridge grad has accepted an invitation to take part in the annual NCAA college football post-season all-star game being held in Mobile, Ala. He will be the only player from a Canadian school in the event.

The six-foot-six passer was named the Hec Crighton award winner as U Sports football player of the year this past season after throwing for 4,252 yard and 35 touchdowns while rushing for seven more majors. He is a two-time Ontario university player of the year and led the Yates Cup champion Golden Hawks to the Vanier Cup game, which they lost to Laval at Kingston in November.

He didn’t start playing football until Grade 10 and wasn’t at one of the recent local pigskin powerhouses in Oakridge secondary school. He played elite minor hockey with the London Junior Knights and his late start on the gridiron was cited by his Laurier head coach, Michael Faulds, in a November interview.“He started it late but I think that’s his drive. It almost feels like he’s on catch-up mode,” Faulds said.

Elgersma was ranked in the top 20 on the winter edition of the CFL Scouting Bureau’s list for the 2025 CFL draft. The Senior Bowl also serves one last chance to impress NFL scouts before the combine and individual workouts and is offered to players who completed their final year of college eligibility.

Though the Londoner is expected to turn pro, he still has a fifth year of Canadian university football available if he chooses to return to school.
