Just 24 hours after being acquired from the Guelph Storm, defenceman Cam Allen had a goal and two assists to help lead the London Knights to a 6-1 win over the Erie Otters before an officially announced 3,356 at Erie Insurance Arena on Wednesday night.

The win improves the Knights to 26-6-0-0, good for 52 points and comfortably atop the Ontario Hockey League standings with one game to go before the Christmas break. Erie falls to 16-10-3-1 on the season.

Allen, the No. 3 overall pick to Guelph in 2021, was dealt to London in exchange for defenceman Noah Jenken and seven draft picks, including two second-rounders. He’s the second blue-liner added to the club this month – following University of Vermont commit Andoni Fimis.

Wednesday night, Allen had an assist on the Evan Van Gorp goal that made it 2-0 London in the first period, then added a goal of his own 16 seconds into the second period to make it 3-0. He then had an assist on Blake Montgomery’s goal in the third period. The other London goal scorers were Landon Sim, Jacob Julien and Sam O’Reilly.

Goalie Alexsei Medvedev made 20 for the win. Erie goalie Charlie Burns made 28 saves. Dylan Edwards had the lone goal for Erie.

The Knights beat Erie with three of their top players away to play for Canada at the world juniors later this month: Easton Cowan, Oliver Bonk and Sam Dickinson. Finnish sniper Kasper Halttunen was also out of the lineup on Thursday.

After Friday’s game against Sarnia, the Knights begin the league-wide Christmas break. They return to the ice in Flint on Dec. 29 and will then be home against the Sting on New Year’s Eve (4 p.m.).
