A new London burger joint named after an unusual item on its menu has opened steps from Western University’s main gates.
It’s a simple menu with four burger options and standard sides such as fries. But a dessert it offers, banana pudding, is the inspiration for the business’s name, Banana Burger, which has opened its doors at the site of a former Korean restaurant at 1131 Richmond St.

“My main goal is to have the best food possible, provide the best service, and have the best team,” said owner Aaron Park, a 25-year-old Toronto native. “I wanted something with a fast turnover and quick-serve.
“And I thought burgers (and banana pudding) would fit the market.”
Inside the restaurant, there are tables for customers who want to dine-in. The artwork on the walls and yellow colour scheme is dedicated to the restaurant’s banana-inspired style.
The eatery is next door to its “market,” university students, and it’s open most days from 11:30 a.m. until to 3 a.m. Big crowds during Western’s recent homecoming proved the business is well-prepared for customer demand, Park said.
Most of its items are made in-house, such as the beef blend for the burgers, the sauce, and the marquee banana pudding.
Although the restaurant is Park’s first business, which he shares with other partners around the same age, he said the past few weeks have been going well.
“We’re pretty young, but we have a lot of years in the restaurant industry,” he said. “I can’t complain, you know? Being a business owner of any sector is difficult, but I think it’s been good.”
Prices for the smash burgers – with no side included – range from $9.99 for a vegetarian mushroom burger to $13.99 for a Binky burger with sauce, beef patty, bacon, cheese, sautéed onion, pickle, lettuce and tomato.
Sides are fries, poutine – available in large and regular sizes – and house pickles.
The banana pudding, described on the menu as “yum yum in your tum tum,” is topped with cookie crumbles, and goes for $5.99.
