Police in Huron and Bruce counties seized more than $120,000 in stolen vehicles, drugs, cash, and weapons after a rural property on the county border was raided.

The investigation was started by the Ontario Provincial Police in Huron County, where investigators were led to an address on Huron-Bruce Road, which runs east-west in a largely rural area northeast of Wingham.

On Sept. 10, police say officers at that address saw a newer-model vehicle drive into a farm field, damaging crops in order to evade officers.

The vehicle drove into a tree stump, and the lone driver ran off before being arrested, police said. The vehicle was stolen, police said, and a search of the driven path found a revolver and ammunition. Police say that a search of the vehicle uncovered meth, $1,300 in cash, a prohibited knife and a container of exploding rifle mix.

While at the Huron-Bruce Road property, police say that officers spotted another stolen vehicle before arresting a second person there. Police say officers raided the house and found more weapons, stolen property and other illegal weapons. Police say they seized a stolen trailer, snowmobile and pickup truck, along with crossbows and ammunition.

Police broke down the estimated value of all the items seized:

  • Stolen vehicles and property: $117,000
  • Seized drugs: $500
  • Seized property, weapons and ammunition: $4,950
  • Canadian currency: $1,300

Two South Bruce men, 40 and 45 years old, face a combined 42 charges. These charges include possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition, possession of stolen property, mischief, dangerous driving, and careless storage of weapons and ammunition.
