Right direction

Regarding the article Councillors propose spending $3 million to lighten tax increase (Aug. 13).

I appreciate councillors Jerry Pribil and Corrine Rahman for their proposal to reduce tax increases slightly for the next three years.

Even a small amount will help a vast majority of London taxpayers. Big tax hikes could have been averted if this approach was considered for the police budget.

Stay off sidewalks

I live downtown and often walk to where I need to go. I support bike lanes.

What I don’t support are the cyclists who think riding on the sidewalk is a good idea. I am not a fan of someone silently barreling up behind me while I walk.

Perhaps the unused bike lanes can be designated for pedestrians and the side walks for bikes, scooters, mopeds, and skateboards.

Since the police have no way of enforcing how or where people ride perhaps they should confiscate their devices when they endanger pedestrians.

Weekly is better

I have to agree with all the letters I have been reading against garbage pickup every two weeks, It’s pointless.

There was nothing wrong with weekly pickup, which we have had since I can remember. I’m wondering if council ever heard the expression “If it’s not broken, don’t fix it?”

It reminds me of when Coun. Skylar Franke tried to impose a 6A p.m. curfew on gas-powered lawn equipment.

Think before you act.

Whose Ontario is it?

I’d like to know what plans Premier Doug Ford and his government has for Toronto. He seems to want to do away with anything that might be good for the regular people of Ontario in favour of places for his rich friends to use like the spa at Ontario Place.

Ford seems to be getting more and more like former U.S. president Donald Trump every day.

Suggesting people line up at the veterinary hospital for an MRI is not my idea of a joke, although maybe Ford should have one done there to see if he is human. I hope people remember what he has done when the next election comes about.

No to bike lanes

Regarding the online article Ward councillor sounds alarm over safety on busy London road (Aug. 12).

Hamilton Road is a major arterial road that takes people in and out of downtown. The idea to cut the number of lanes in half defies logic.

When is London city council going to realize, as London continues to grow, the number of vehicles grows as well.
