OHL’s top team scores three consecutive goals in the second period to blow close game open

The London Knights scored three consecutive goals in the second period, en route to a 7-3 victory over the Soo Greyhounds at the GFL Memorial Gardens on Sunday afternoon.

Justin Cloutier gave the Hounds a 2-1 lead before the halfway point of the second period, but goals by Cam Allen, Oliver Bonk and Evan van Gorp allowed the Knights a 4-2 lead after 40 minutes.
Blake Montgomery, Sam Dickenson and Kasper Halttunen scored for the Knights in the third. Chase Reid replied for the Hounds

.Cloutier scored twice for the Greyhounds (19-25-1-0). The Hounds are 0-3 against London this season with one game remaining in the season series. The locals are 10-11-1-0 at home.
Cloutier leads the team in goals scored with 23. Marco Mignosa leads the team in points with 42 in 32 games played.
Jordan Charron picked up two assists in the loss.
Nolan Lalonde (12-9-5-0) turned aside 28 of 34 shots in 46:17 of action. Landon Miller went the rest of the way and allowed one goal on seven shots. Lalonde’s empty-net goal against the Flint Firebirds on Friday night was the first goalie goal in franchise history.
Landon Sim also scored for the Knights (37-7-1-0). Easton Cowan’s consecutive regular season point streak remains at 62. The Leafs draft pick is day-to-day with a lower-body injury.
The Knights improved to 19-3-0-1 on the road and 8-1-1-0 in their last 10.
Austin Elliott (20-0-0-0-) stopped 25 of 28 shots for his 20th consecutive win to start his OHL career.
The Knights went 1-5 on the powerplay. The Hounds went 0-5 with the man advantage.
The Hounds are eight in the West Conference heading into league action this week. The club is two points behind the Sarnia Sting for seventh in the conference.

The Hounds host the Kitchener Rangers on Wednesday. Puck drop is 7:07 p.m.
The Knights took a 1-0 lead at 12:34 of the first period when Sim potted his 20th of the season.
Lalonde stopped a William Nicholls redirect from the slot, but Sim out-muscled Spencer Evans prior to jamming the rebound behind the Soo keeper.
The Hounds tied the game with a short-handed goal by Cloutier at 17:32.
Charron created a turnover at the Hounds blue line just seconds before Cloutier grabbed the loose puck and out-skated Allen before hoisting the puck over the left shoulder of Elliott for his 22nd goal of the season.
The Hounds took a 2-1 lead at 7:33 of the second period when Cloutier beat Elliott between the left arm and the body with a shot from the slot. The goal was Cloutier’s 23rd of the season. The Hounds winger has four goals in three games against the Knights this season.
The Knights tied the game 1:05 later when Allen skated in from the left point and picked up a rebound off a point shot, finding the short side of the net for his 11th goal.
The visitors edged in front at 12:19 when Bonk beat Lalonde to the glove side for his eighth goal of the season.

Brady Martin was the lone defender on a two-on-one between the goal-scorer and Jared Woolley. Bonk used Woolley as a decoy, going up top with a shot from the right face-off circle.
The Knights extended their lead to 4-2 at 18:53 when van Gorp redirected a Sam Dickenson cross-crease pass for his 14th goal of the season.
Van Gorp skated to the back post to the left of Lalonde as Dickinson drove wide near the goal line, the pass going through skates to the Knights forward at the far post for the tap-in.
