Provincial police are warning the public to be vigilant after a Huron County resident was defrauded out of $6,500 in the grandparent scam.
An 82-year-old Huon East resident received a phone call on Dec. 13 from an unknown number. The caller claimed to be the senior’s grandson and said they were in a crash and needed money, Huron County OPP said Tuesday.
The caller told the senior to get $6,500 cash and arranged for it to be picked up the next day, when a man arrived to the home and collected the money, police said. The suspect is described as a black man, between 20 to 35, who was driving a dark-coloured car.
