A Fanshawe College international student has died weeks after being struck by a vehicle while walking in northeast London, loved ones say in an online fundraiser.
Sachina Shrestha, from Nepal, had been on life support since the Dec. 9 collision, according to the GoFundMe fundraising page, but was removed from a ventilator and declared legally deceased on Boxing Day – one day after her parents arrived in Canada following what were described as “significant hurdles” getting here.

“Known for her kindness, dedication and a radiant smile, she touched the lives of everyone around her,” the GoFundMe page reads. “Her sudden loss has created an irreplaceable void in the hearts of her family and friends.”
The page adds that she was “bright and ambitious” and “came to Canada to pursue her dreams.” The page’s creators did not immediately respond to a Free Press interview request.
London police did not confirm the details of the fundraising page but on Tuesday confirmed Shrestha as the person struck in the Dec. 9 collision. Police list her age as 21, while the GoFundMe states she was 22.
Police have previously said it was shortly after 8 p.m. on Dec. 9, a Monday, when emergency crews were called to the area of Huron and Adelaide streets after a female pedestrian was struck by a vehicle. The driver involved remained at the scene, police said in that initial statement.
Police on Tuesday said the investigation was ongoing. They asked anyone who was in the area of Huron and Adelaide streets between 8 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. on Dec. 9 and who may have dashboard-camera or surveillance footage to contact them at 519-661-5670.
The online fundraiser, which stated a funeral was to be held in London on Tuesday, had raised nearly $20,000.
