The national weather agency was calling for “patchy freezing rain” beginning late Sunday morning and lasting into the afternoon as southeast winds bring wet weather into the region. Moderating temperatures late in the day were expected to turn the icy drizzle into raindrops, Environment Canada said in a statement Sunday morning.

The national weather agency issued a freezing rain warning for London as well as Middlesex, Oxford, Huron and Perth counties and warned the public that roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery.

The agency issues freezing rain warnings when rain falls in sub-zero temperatures, creating ice build-up.

Fog patches were likely to develop in the London-area around midnight Sunday and dissipate by Monday morning, Environment Canada said.

Provincial police urged the public to be vigilant about changing road conditions.

“Middlesex OPP remind all drivers to always adjust your driving in adverse weather,” West Region OPP said in a post on social media Sunday morning. “Plan your trip accordingly, pack a safety kit, turn your lights on and drive with respect.”
