London police responded to a shooting at London Health Sciences Centre’s Victoria Hospital emergency room at about 2:30 a.m., police said in a news release on Saturday morning.

Officers found a pickup truck that had struck a cement pillar outside of the ER entrance, police said. Investigators found evidence that a gun had been fired multiple times. Both the pickup truck and the outside of the hospital were struck by bullets, police said.

A man sustained non-life-threatening injuries and remained in hospital, police said on Saturday morning.

London police and LHSC security remained outside of the Victoria Hospital emergency room entrance Saturday morning. The entrance was cordoned off with police tape and two windows near the ER’s sliding doors had been boarded up.

The emergency room entrance was closed to visitors, however ambulances were still coming and going from a separate entrance.

In a post on social media Saturday, London Health Sciences Centre acknowledged the increased police presence at Victoria Hospital’s emergency room and said its ERs at Victoria Hospital, University Hospital and Children’s Hospital “remain open and safe for care.”

Investigators do not believe this was a random incident, London police said Saturday.

Police say there was an altercation between the man and suspect near White Oak and Southdale roads before the shooting.

The suspect vehicle is described as four-door silver or grey sedan, possibly a Hyundai Sonata.

Anyone with dash-cam footage or video surveillance in the White Oak and Southdale roads area or near Commissioners Road East and Wellington Road between 2:10 a.m. and 2:35 a.m. is asked to contact investigators.

This is the tenth case of gunfire in London this year, including three within the past month. That’s compared to 28 shootings in 2023.

Anyone with information about the latest shooting is asked to call London police at (519) 661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
