A tow operator was struck by a vehicle that drove away without paying after being pulled from a ditch, Ontario Provincial Police say.

Police say it was about 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday when emergency crews responded to a report of a truck striking a pedestrian on Airport Line between Huron Street and Thames Road East, a rural area just west of Exeter in Huron County.

Emergency crews found one person who had been struck by a truck that fled from the scene, police said

The injured tow operator was taken to hospital, police said, adding the injuries were not considered life-threatening.

Police say the tow operator had removed a vehicle from a ditch, where it had been stuck in the snow. While waiting for payment, the suspect vehicle’s driver sped off and struck the tow operator, launching them into the ditch, police said.

The vehicle involved was seen leaving the scene northbound on the airport line. Police say the vehicle has been identified though no charges had been laid as of Friday.

Stratford man charged after standoff

A 51-year-old Stratford man is facing several charges after alleged intimate partner violence early Thursday left a woman in hospital, police say.

Stratford police were called shortly before 5:30 a.m. when an injured woman was spotted by a resident walking along Mornington Street. The resident called police and drove the woman to hospital.

Police found the man at a Mornington Street home, which he barricaded himself inside. Police closed down the area surrounding the home and began negotiations amid reports a firearm may be involved.

The man exited the home at about 11 a.m. police say, adding a replica gun was seized. The man was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
