Man faces more than a dozen sex offences in Huron County probe

A Goderich man faces more than a dozen sex-related charges in an investigation that is expected to grow, Huron County OPP said.

A 21-year-old man is charged with 12 counts of sexual assault, two counts of invitation to sexual touching, two counts of sexual interference, assault, forcible confinement, being unlawfully in a dwelling house and luring a child younger than 18, police said Thursday.

A police spokesperson declined to reveal the number of complainants, but investigators say they believe there may be more.

“This is a complex and sensitive case, and we don’t want to compromise the investigation, which is still ongoing,” Const. Craig Soldan said.

Police said the investigation began on Oct. 24 involving several complainants in the Huron County area.

The accused is in custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Goderich on a date that was not disclosed.

Man charged after municipal staff threatened

A North Huron man is charged after police say a person threatened staff at the township’s municipal office on Thursday morning.

A person went to North Huron’s municipal office on Josephine Street in the town of Wingham around 9:30 a.m. and “interacted with staff,” Huron OPP said.

Police were contacted to investigate threats made by the individual.

The OPP posted a photo of a suspect on social media at about 11 a.m., asking the public to help identify and locate the individual.

A suspect was identified and arrested just after 12:30 p.m., police said.

A 41-year-old North Huron is charged with uttering threats to cause bodily harm or death and criminal harassment.

The accused is being held in custody for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Goderich.
