Two dead in Walpole Island boat crash: OPP

Two people are dead after a weekend boat crash on the Walpole Island First Nation, provincial police say.

Lambton County OPP, the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre Trenton and U.S. Coast Guard responded to a crash involving a single vessel on Pocket Bay, on the far western edge of Walpole Island First Nation, about 6 p.m. Saturday.

Two people died at the scene, Lambton County OPP said in an news release Sunday.

Walpole Island First Nation, made up of a group of islands, is located between Sarnia and Chatham at the mouth of the St. Clair River and along Lake St. Clair.

Officers from the OPP’s Traffic Incident Management Enforcement unit were called to the scene to help with the investigation, police said.

Neither the identities of the two people who died, nor the potential cause of the boat crash, were released by provincial police.

Teen charged in knife-point robbery in south London

A 13-year-old is facing charges following a knife-point robbery in south London.

A youth armed with a knife approached a group of teens walking near Homeview Road and Crawford Street, northeast of Southdale and Wharncliffe roads, on Wednesday around 3:40 p.m. and made threats and demanded property from one of the boys, London police said Friday.

The complainant, who wasn’t injured, got away and police were contacted. The suspect was known to the boys in the group, police said. 

A suspect was arrested the next day, police said.

A 13-year-old male, who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with robbery. He’s scheduled to appear in court Dec. 23.
