One person is dead and one person is charged with murder after police say they were called to a home in a rural area southwest of London.
The Ontario Provincial Police Middlesex detachment says officers were called to a home on Carriage Road in Middlesex County at about 9 p.m. on Monday. Police say they were called there amid reports of a “sudden death.”

The name of the person who died has not been made public. Police say Nicholas Russell-Ewanation, 28, of Middlesex Centre is charged with second-degree murder. He remained in custody on Tuesday, police said.

While police said in a statement they did not believe there was an ongoing threat to public safety, they added that “members of the community can expect to see an increased police presence” at the scene.
Police said the investigation was ongoing as of Tuesday afternoon and involved the Middlesex OPP crime unit, the OPP forensic identification team and the chief corner’s office along with the Ontario forensic pathology service.

Carriage Road is a long, rural road running north-south between Gideon Drive, just west of London, and the area close to Oneida, near Hwy. 401. Ken O’Donnell has lived on it for three decades and was shocked to hear of the homicide probe.
“I’m very surprised. You never see or hear of this out here,” said the owner of Twin Streams Equestrian Centre. “This is still a fairly rural area.”
This is the second murder investigation so far this year in Middlesex County, a largely rural area that surrounds London.
On Jan. 11, Middlesex OPP responded at about 9 p.m. to a home in North Middlesex, a small municipality north of Strathroy, and found one dead person.
Police later identified Maria Medeiros, 82, as the person discovered dead at the rural home on 4022 Wardell Dr., about a 30-minute drive northwest of London. Emanuel Medeiros, the slain woman’s son, was charged with second-degree murder.
