Firefighters from multiple stations battled a large blaze at a Chatham scrapyard on Wednesday. Crews responded to A. Gold and Sons, located on Queen’s Line, west of Bloomfield Road, where a scrap vehicle on fire resulted in heavy black smoke blanketing the surrounding areas. Chatham-Kent fire officials said there were no injuries reported. The fire was extinguished later in the afternoon, with crews tending to various hot spots. Officials described the blaze as a “complex” fire. Nearby residents also were advised to close their doors and windows because of the smoke.
