Investigators took the rare step on Tuesday of releasing a video showing a man opening fire on a southwest London home.

Several loud bangs were reported on Maidstone Lane near Romney Lane, southwest of Colonel Talbot and Southdale roads, on Saturday at 3:50 a.m. They were confirmed by London police to be gunfire.

On Tuesday, police released two short video clips and a pair of photos from the overnight shooting.

One of the videos shows a hooded male get out of the passenger side of a vehicle and fire a handgun. The other video shows the getaway vehicle, last seen driving north toward Raleigh Boulevard.

“Investigators asked that we release both videos and suspect images in hopes that members of the public can assist us in identifying them,” Sgt. Sandasha Bough said.

Police first made an appeal on Saturday for anyone with surveillance or dashboard-camera footage from the area at the time of the shooting – the city’s first case of gunfire this year – to come forward.

The shooter is described as male with a medium build who was wearing a hoodie with markings on both sleeves.

Anyone with information about the suspect or the shooting should call London police at 519-661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

The gunfire came one day after police Chief Thai Truong, who has highlighted cracking down on shootings as one of his top priorities, announced the force would soon have a new digital tool to help combat gun violence in the city.

London police have signed up for a new compliance dashboard that shares real-time information about people out on bail or under release conditions for gun-related offences.

London police always have had access to information about the bail conditions of local residents, but getting those details on people facing charges from outside the city who may have moved to London had to be requested.

“So, that allows us to conduct bail compliance checks. That gives us intelligence . . . and ultimately that information supports us to make the community safer and to prevent crime and to address serious concerns, which is gun violence,” Truong previously said of the OPP-managed dashboard.
