As of shortly after 11 a.m. the fire was out. Seven fire trucks responded to the blaze.
“It appears two families lived in the home,” Shea said at the scene. “We had smoke and flames at the scene when firefighters arrived.”
He added: “This house fire is a great example of why everyone needs a working smoke alarm in your home.”
At Oasis Dental Hygiene Care next door, the owners were “relieved” their business wasn’t damaged.
“They were fantastic, very responsive. They did a terrific job,” Colin Hodgins, whose wife owns the business, said of firefighters. “We’re very relieved they put out the fire quickly.”
At a home next door, Broc Dawe was shocked to see fire trucks on the scene when he arrived home at about 10 a.m.
“It was unnerving seeing all the trucks here, lights on and hoses out,” he said. “The whole inside of the house is black, windows were all smashed.”
His sister, Asha Dawe, was also at the scene. “Hopefully everyone is alright. I’m glad they got here before it got worse,” she said.
