One killed in rural Southwestern Ontario crash: Police

One person is dead after a crash near Ingersoll, Ontario Provincial Police said on Tuesday morning.

Police say the two-vehicle crash occurred on Plank Line, which was expected to be closed for several hours between McBeth Road and Salford Road – a rural part of Oxford County located south of Ingersoll. Drivers were asked to avoid the area, police said on Tuesday morning.

One person was killed, police said, and another person was taken to hospital with injures that police deemed not life-threatening.

Police detail crash involving impaired driver

Chatham-Kent police said they’re grateful no one was injured when an impaired driver went through an intersection without stopping and crashed on Saturday.

A resident in the area of Indian Creek Road West in Chatham heard a loud bang at just before 12:30 a.m. and called police.

Police say that officers arrived in the area of Lacroix Street and Indian Creek Road West and spotted a pickup truck in a treed area attempting to reverse and leave, police said.

The driver was arrested, police said.

“The man had gone straight through the intersection without stopping and we are grateful no other member of the public was hurt,” police said in a statement.

The driver was taken to police headquarters where he was found to have a blood-alcohol level three times the legal blood-alcohol limit of 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood, police said

A 43-year-old man from Charing Cross, a Chatham-Kent community located west of Blenheim, has been charged with impaired driving, police said.
