Highway 402 was closed in both directions between Nauvoo and Forest roads on Monday as part of a sudden death investigation, police said.

“The highway is going to remain closed for the investigation for the next few hours at least,” Middlesex OPP Const. Jeff Hare said in a video posted to social media around 1:30 p.m.

The investigation began around 10:25 a.m. Monday, he said, adding that traffic was backed up for kilometres.

“Obviously details of the investigation are minimal at this time as it is in the early stages,” Hare said, adding “updates will be provided when available.”

Added Hare: “We ask everybody for their patience.”

Pickup truck collides with school bus full of students: Police

Nobody was hurt when a pickup truck rear-ended a busload of students on Owen Sound’s east side on Monday morning.

At about 8:30 a.m., the school bus carrying 24 students and a driver was struck from behind in the 800 block of 16th Avenue East near East Ridge community school.

Owen Sound police said in a statement that their investigation concluded the bus was attempting a left turn into the parking lot of the school when it was hit from behind by a 2017 Dodge Ram pickup truck.

All students on the bus and both drivers were unharmed in the crash, police said.

Multiple airbags deployed in the truck as a result of the impact and the truck had to be towed from the scene, police said, adding they laid a charge of careless driving.
