One person was taken to hospital after firefighters responded to a house fire near London’s Glen Cairn neighbourhood on Wednesday morning, London Fire Department officials say.
Fire crews were dispatched to a house on Josephine Street – which is located near the intersection of Adelaide Street and Thompson Road – early Wednesday for reports of “smoke showing from a residence,” fire officials said in a statement posted to social media.

When firefighters arrived at the home, heavy smoke was visible from the backyard, officials said. One of the fire crews at the scene reported that flames could be seen coming from inside the house, officials said.
In their statement, fire officials said there was a person out of the home by the time they arrived on Josephine Street. The person was in the care of paramedics.
The blaze was knocked down by firefighters and crews decontaminated at the scene, fire officials said. As of mid-morning on Wednesday, investigators were still at the scene of the blaze to determine the fire’s “origin, cause and circumstance.”
One person was taken to hospital by paramedics as a result of the fire, officials said, but the extent of their injuries wasn’t clear.
The fire department noted that the home’s smoke alarms were activated, noting that “smoke alarms save lives.” Fire officials didn’t provide an estimated cost of damage to the home due to the blaze.
