A doctor has been named the chief of staff at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital, officials announced on Tuesday.
Dr. Erica Van Daalen has been named to the post after serving as the emergency department chief for the past four years, hospital officials said in a statement. She also served as a physician in the medical centre’s chemotherapy unit.
“I’m excited to step into this role as chief of staff,” Van Daalen said in a statement. “Being able to lead such a talented and dedicated team is an honour, and I look forward to working together to continue providing excellent care to our community.

“I’m committed to helping our hospital grow and thrive in the years to come.”
Before pursuing a medical degree at the University of Toronto, Van Daalen graduated from Western University with an undergraduate degree in genetics and cell biology, the hospital statement noted. Van Daalen also completed specialty training in family medicine and emergency medicine at Western.
“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Erica Van Daalen as our new chief of staff,” hospital president/CEO Karen Davies said in a statement. “Her dedication to patient care, combined with her leadership experience and community involvement, make her an outstanding addition to our hospital’s leadership team.”
Van Daalen replaces Dr. Waleed Chehadi, whose tenure began in 2016, and the hospital’s release thanked him “for his eight years of exemplary service and leadership.”
Van Daalen will assume the chief of staff position effective Nov. 1.
