Man, 38, charged in $250K Old East Village blaze

A 38-year-old man is charged after fire tore through a vacant building along Dundas Street in London’s Old East Village, police say.

The fire, deemed an arson by police, did an estimated $250,000 in damage, police said.

Fire crews were called at about 10 a.m. Wednesday to the building at 737 Dundas St., on the south side of the street in the heart of Old East Village. The structure, which police described as a “multi-dwelling building, is vacant.

Peter David Dickie, 38, of London is facing a pair of arson-related charges. He remains in custody and was expected to next appear in London court on Monday, police said.

The same building was hit by fire at about 10:30 a.m. on Sept. 5. No one was hurt in that fire, either, but damage was pegged at $800,000 and investigators were treating it as an arson.

Anyone in the area between 10:20 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Sept. 5 who has dashboard-camera or surveillance footage, or any  information about the incident, is asked to call London police at 519-661-5670.

91-year-old charged with attempted murder: Ontario Provincial Police

A 91-year-old Leamington man has been charged with attempted murder following a report of intimate partner violence.

Ontario Provincial Police in Leamington say officers and Essex-Windsor paramedics were called to a home in the municipality on Oct. 12 at about 6:25 a.m.

Police officers and paramedics transported two people to a local hospital with what were described as injuries that weren’t life-threatening.

Police say the victim and accused were known to each other. The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
