TOUCHDOWN: Chase Brown scored a late 30-yard touchdown to cement the Cincinnati Bengals’ 17-7 victory over the New York Giants in NFL action Sunday.
The 24-year-old Londoner ran the ball 10 times for 53 yards and has 283 yards on 55 carries this season. He has scored three times while averaging 5.5 yards a carry.

Brown’s twin brother Sydney took part in practice last week with Philadelphia but didn’t dress in a 20-16 home win over the Cleveland Browns. He hasn’t played since surgery in January to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament.
The Bengals and Eagles will meet Oct. 27 in Cincinnati.
HOT START: Kasper Halttunen had a dream start to his American Hockey League career with two goals and a second-star performance in the San Jose Barracuda’s season-opening 5-0 victory over the Ontario Reign (Los Angeles Kings’ farm team) this past weekend.
The 19-year-old Finn, who led the OHL playoffs and Memorial Cup in goal-scoring, helped the London Knights win their first league title in eight years last spring. The Sharks prospect is eligible to return to London but has the option of playing in the AHL this season because he was drafted by the Sharks before joining the Knights.
CHAMPS AGAIN: The Western men’s tennis team won its 24th Ontario university title with a 4-2 victory over Toronto this past weekend.
The Mustangs won their fifth gold medal since 2018 and avenged last year’s gold-medal loss to the Varsity Blues. Liam Drover-Mattinen was named OUA player of the year and top rookie.

“We are excited to come out on top against Toronto, who we have battled with in the OUA finals for several years now,” Western coach Cameron Cross said in a release. “This is the strongest team that I have coached since joining the program . . . 15 years ago.”
Drover-Mattinen and Ray Xie were named provincial all-stars.
The Western women’s team finished third, beating Waterloo 4-3. Chantal Stepanova was named an all-star.
MAT TEAM NAMED: Komoka’s Adam Thomson was named to Canada’s senior wrestling team while fellow London-Western club member Gavin Eldridge and Brianna Fraser of Bright’s Grove earned berths on the national under-23 team heading to Tirana, Albania, next week.
Thomson will compete in the 79-kg freestyle division — one of only four senior weight classes contested at senior worlds during an Olympic year. Eldridge will take part in the 67-kg Greco-Roman category while Fraser, out of the Brock wrestling club, is in the women’s 76-kg class.
“Wrestling Canada is excited to be sending a strong and experienced team to both the U23 and senior world championships,” Wrestling Canada high performance director Chris Woodcroft said in a release.
The coaching staff for the senior team includes Dave Spinney while Tim Nanassy will serve in a team medical role.
