The male driver of a motorcycle was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries at about 1:30 p.m. Friday after a crash involving another vehicle at the intersection of Colonel Talbot Road and Southminster Bourne, police said.

In a news release midday Saturday, London police announced the motorcyclist had succumbed to his injuries in hospital. Police did not release the identity of the deceased.

The intersection, near the southernmost edge of the city, was closed in all directions for several house as police investigated the crash. Investigators flew drones above the crash scene to survey the area.

Southminster Bourne, an east-west stretch of rural road north of Talbotville, is controlled by a stop sign. Colonel Talbot Road, a key north-south corridor, does not stop at the intersection.

The crash comes weeks after a pair of London collisions involving motorcycles, one fatal and the other causing serious injuries.

Friday’s crash is the tenth fatal collision in the London-region involving motorcycles since early July, most on rural roads. It’s a trend Ontario Provincial Police say is happening across the province, and serious enough to prompt an enforcement blitz.

London police said Saturday that the investigation into Friday’s crash is ongoing.

London police are asking anyone with dash-cam footage, video surveillance or any information that can assist with the investigation to contact investigators at (519) 661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
