London police believe there may be more complainants after they say a man was charged with sexual assault in connection with an incident earlier this month.

It was July 5, police say, when a man approached a woman near Adelaide and Leathorne streets, gesturing her toward his vehicle. The man, who she didn’t know, offered her a ride home, which she accepted, police said.

The woman was sexually touched without consent in the vehicle, police said. When the vehicle arrived at the woman’s home, the man tried to kiss her, police said, adding the woman left the man’s vehicle and contacted police.

Hassan Kharfan, 51, is charged with sexual assault, police said. He is expected to next appear in London court on Aug. 20.

Police say they believe there may be more complainants who’ve not yet come forward. Police did not make public a photo of the accused but described him as of Middle Eastern descent, standing five-foot-six and weighing 200 pounds with short brown hair and eyes.

Anyone who knows of similar incidents is asked to call London police at 519-661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Woman charged in knife-swinging incident

Officers used a Taser in the arrest of a woman who flashed a knife in downtown London earlier this week, police say.

It was about 12:20 a.m. Tuesday when police say a citizen saw a woman “swinging a large knife” near the intersection of Dundas and Richmond streets. Police were called.

She was then seen in the 100-block of Queens Avenue chasing a man while swinging a knife, police said, and officers were called to the scene.

Officers used a Taser to arrest the woman, police said, adding a large knife was seized.

A 31-year-old London woman is charged with possession of a weapon, resisting arrest and breach of probation. She remains in custody.
