One person is dead following a crash in rural Elgin County, Ontario Provincial Police say.
Police and emergency crews responded to a serious crash involving a single passenger vehicle that collided with a tree shortly before 7 p.m. on Friday, Elgin OPP said.
The lone occupant, a 23-year-old from St. Thomas, was pulled from the vehicle and rushed to hospital before being pronounced dead, police said.

The collision took place on Roberts Line near Centennial Road, police said. That’s a T-intersection in a rural area northeast of Port Stanley.
Police said they are not releasing the identity of the deceased “out of respect for the family’s privacy.” Anyone with information contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
Driver, 80, charged in crash that hurt five
An elderly driver is charged after a two-vehicle crash on Owen Sound’s east side sent five people to hospital.
The collision occurred at the intersection of 8th Avenue East and 20th Street East at about 8 p.m. on July 7, when a Kia SUV was travelling west on 20th Street. A Volkswagen SUV had stopped at the stop sign facing south, before proceeding into the intersection and causing the collision, Owen Sound police say.
Both SUVs sustained significant damage, police said.
The two female occupants of the Volkswagen were taken by ambulance to hospital with injuries, while the three occupants of the Kia also required medical attention and were taken to hospital by ambulance.
Police say the passenger in the Volkswagen was flown to hospital in a larger community with serious injuries that are not considered to be life-threatening.
An 80-year-old woman from Etobicoke is charged with careless driving and driving without a valid licence.
