Three local athletes will represent Canada at the first under-23 Pan Am wrestling championships starting Friday in Rionegro, Colombia.
Treye Trotman (57 kg), Gavin Eldridge (Greco-Roman 67 kg) and Jonelle Clarke (women’s 65 kg) of the London-Western club will take part in the event. Trotman, who competed at last year’s senior worlds at age 18, will be in his first under-23 event.
He previously finished third at the last two under-20 Pan Am championships following a silver medal at the 2019 cadets Pan Ams.
“Wrestling Canada is sending a strong contingent of athletes to compete,” Chris Woodcroft, the organization’s high-performance director, said. “The international experience will prove to be a valuable stepping stone for the world (U23s) held later this fall.”
