Saved from raccoon

I would just like to thank those individuals who came to my assistance after a “raccoon encounter” on Dec. 22 at Montgomery and Southdale roads. I saw a raccoon staggering on the road toward my vehicle. I did not want to run over it so I got out of my vehicle to see where it was. As I stepped out of the car it grabbed my left ankle and attacked my right leg, clawing and biting and hanging on. I was shouting, “Get this thing off me.” Someone did, by using a snow brush. I do not know what happened to the raccoon, because I jumped back in my vehicle and drove off. Someone shouted: “You have to go to the hospital,” which I did. The “encounter” necessitated a series of rabies shots during a two-week period. Once again, thank you.

Goodbye made easier

The families of the late JoAnne Manderson wish to acknowledge the tremendous care, support, knowledge and compassion from which she benefited while a patient at University Hospital these last three weeks. The 7th floor ICU unit, medical staff, floor team and palliative team need to be commended. The attention family members received also was appreciated.

Thank you, from the Manderson and Purcell family team.

Grateful for care

I want to thank the amazing doctors and nurses in the emergency department and on B6 at London Health Sciences Centre for my son’s amazing care this past weekend.

He had an emergency related to his condition and, due to the seriousness of his diagnosis, he needed to be seen in a pediatric emergency department.

As soon as we arrived, he was triaged and treated immediately. He got the tests he needed right away and was admitted immediately after that.

It happened quickly. There was no hours-long wait. There was no delay in getting his tests done. There was no fear he wasn’t being seen by a non-pediatric staff. There was no fear that the equipment being used was the wrong size or inserted incorrectly. There was no being told to go home because it wasn’t anything serious.

Because we don’t have access to a pediatric emergency department or an onsite ground pediatric transport team, we have to make the two-hour drive from Windsor ourselves. We can’t afford for him to wait hours in the local emergency department and then hours for an air ambulance or for the team from LHSC. We can’t risk the consequences of waiting for care so, like too many other area families, we make the drive to London on our own.

It’s terrifying not to have what he needs here, but we are fortunate we can get him to you.

So thank you again to everyone at LHSC for his exceptional care and more importantly, for his immediate care. He’s here because of you and we’ll forever be grateful to all of you.

Thank you to the PSWs and custodians too; your compassion means so much to us, too.
