Damage pegged at $400K after overnight London house fire

Damage was estimated to be $400,000 after London firefighters battled an overnight blaze at a home in the city’s northeast end.

It was shortly before 1 a.m. on Friday when fire officials issued a statement on social media about the fire in what appeared to be a single-family home on McTavish Crescent, which is located in a residential area near the intersection of Adelaide Street and Fanshawe Park Road.

Officials said there was “heavy fire and smoke” coming from “the basement area.” In an update at 6:35 a.m., officials said the blaze was out and fire investigators were set to determine “the origin, cause and circumstances” of the blaze. Damage was pegged at $400,000.

Charges laid in 2023 Brantford shooting

A Waterloo man has been charged with attempted murder regarding a shooting that happened two years ago outside a Hampton Street home in Brantford.Police haven’t released the name of the man but say he’s 21 years old and has been charged with attempt to commit murder and conspiracy to commit murder.The man has been held for a bail hearing, police said.

The shooting happened at about 6:30 a.m. on Jan. 16, 2023. Police officers responded to a 911 call about a male gunshot victim on Hampton Street.

The man was taken to hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.

At the time, police said that they didn’t believe it was a random incident and asked residents in the area to search their video surveillance for that day from between 6 a.m. to 6:40 p.m. and contact them with any information that may have been of assistance with their investigation.
