Firefighters battled a three-plex blaze that broke out Tuesday morning and did an estimated $1 million in damage.

It was about 7 a.m. on Tuesday when Tillsonburg firefighters were called to Jacko Street, near Westtown Line and Harvest Avenue, for a fire in the middle unit of a complex that was under construction in the town, which is located about a 30-minute drive southeast of London.

“The fire had been underway for a period of time prior to (fire crews being) notified,” said Geoff Hayman of the Tillsonburg fire department. “The buildings weren’t occupied, no one was there and no smoke alarms had been installed yet because the electrical wasn’t complete.”

A crew from nearby Courtland aided the Tillsonburg firefighters. By about 10 a.m. the blaze had been brought under control. Two units were heavily damaged by the fire and another by smoke.

Damage is estimated at more than $1 million.

While Norfolk County has reported a string of suspicious fires in recent weeks, Hayman said the Tillsonburg blaze showed no signs of foul play.

London fire crews battle morning kitchen blaze

Fire crews made “short work” of a kitchen fire in the 200 block of Conway Drive in south London’s White Oaks neighbourhood, fire officials say.

It was about 7:45 a.m. Thursday when firefighters were called to “a small kitchen fire” at a home on the residential street located near the White Oak Road-Bradley Avenue intersection, fire officials said on social media.

There were no injuries, they said, adding that damage is estimated to be more than $200,000.
