Suspects sought in violent assault, robbery of sleeping man
Police are looking for two suspects who repeatedly hit a sleeping man over the head with a chain and stole his belongings, Sarnia police say.
Officers responding to a report of an injured man at a business on Christina Street North, near Maxwell Street, at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday found a 43-year-old man with several cuts to his head, police said.
Lambton EMS paramedics took the man to Bluewater Health, where he was treated and later released, police said.
Security video footage from the business showed the man sleeping, hunched over at an outdoor table, before several individuals appear on bikes, police said.
The video shows one rider take a red bag of belongings from the sleeping victim, police said. The other rider can be seen hitting the man over the head about a dozen times with what appeared to be a chain with a makeshift handle.
Part of the weapon was recovered later by investigators, police said.
The two suspects then fled the area on bikes, police said. An employee leaving the business found the injured man and called police.
