Police in Sarnia are asking the public to help identify two men whose names investigators still don’t know even after they were arrested amid a probe into allegations a homeowner was asked to pay for eavestrough work that wasn’t done.

Police say two men went to a home on Franklin Avenue in Sarnia on Monday and offered to clean its eavestroughs. They later told the homeowner the job was done and further repairs were needed – but investigators say the homeowner realized no work had been done and they called police.

Two people were arrested “a short distance from the scene,” police said, adding that their investigation led them to previous incidents in other communities. The two men “produced identification from another country” and as of Tuesday police said they still didn’t know their actual names.
The men have been held for a bail hearing, said police, who published their photos in an effort to get the public’s help in naming them.

Plate-recognition software leads police to arrest in Chatham-Kent
A person is facing a raft of charges after Ontario Provincial Police stopped a vehicle in Chatham-Kent.
Police say it was about 8:40 a.m. on Monday when an officer stopped a vehicle heading north on Centre Road near Schoolhouse Line after “receiving a hit” on automatic licence-plate recognition software.
A 29-year-old from Chatham-Kent is charged with driving while under suspension, driving without insurance, using an unauthorized licence plate and failing to apply for an ownership permit.
