London man charged after vehicle torched, owners threatened

A London man faces several charges after a person set a vehicle on fire at a home in the city’s east end and threatened residents, London police said.

A man and a woman heard a loud noise outside their home on River Road on Wednesday at about 11:30 p.m. and noticed their vehicle in the driveway was on fire, police said.

The man went outside and spotted a man nearby, who began to threaten him.

Police arrested a male suspect at the scene. All people involved are known to each other, police said.

Both the suspect and man who lived at the home suffered minor injuries as a result of the fire.

A 23-year-old London man is charged with attempted murder, two counts of uttering threats of death or bodily harm, arson with disregard for human life, mischief of more than $5,000 and assault.

The accused remains in custody and was expected to appear in London court on Thursday, police said.

Teen charged in suspicious fire at area high school

A teen is charged in a suspicious fire that forced hundreds of students and staff to leave a London-area high school last month, OPP said.

A fire broke out at Ingersoll District Collegiate Institute at about 10:30 a.m. on Nov. 22. The fire was put out, the Thames Valley District school board said, but no other details about where the fire started or how much damage was caused were provided.

Students and staff left the building on Alma Street and went to the Ingersoll District Memorial Centre. No one was injured, Oxford OPP said at the time.

A 17-year-old teen is charged with mischief and arson, Oxford OPP said Thursday. The teen’s identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice at a future date.
