When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, police say the driver sped north on Richmond Street. The officer didn’t pursue the suspect vehicle and described it to police in the area.

Police say multiple citizens saw the driver “lose control of the vehicle and mount a curb.”

A short time later, the suspect vehicle was found abandoned near the intersection of Richmond and Hyman streets with a flat tire, police said.

Witnesses provided a description of the driver to police, and a suspect was located and arrested a short distance away in the 200 block of Hyman Street near Richmond Row, police said.

A search of the suspect yielded suspected methamphetamine, and a background check of the vehicle revealed it had been reported stolen in Dufferin County northwest of Toronto in October, police said.

Police determined the licence plate was fake, and the suspect was a prohibited driver.

A 41-year-old man from London faces several charges including impaired driving and dangerous driving, possession of stolen property over $5,000, drug possession and failing to stop for police.

The accused was held in custody and was scheduled to appear in London court on Monday in relation to the charges, police said.
