Enforce treatment

Let the government empower police services to pick up homeless individuals and move them to a facility where they can receive treatment.

I think we would all agree the drug use problem around the world is not going to be eradicated.

The homeless can receive the mental health care or intensive drug treatment for addicts. The cost of such facilities are going to be astronomical but I’m confident it would be less than what we are presently spending. We have tried the snowflake, approach and it has failed miserably.

Health Canada needs to not only own up to its mistakes but admit to the harm it caused children by locking them out of schools. Then, people might begin listening to them again.

End fear mongering

Regarding the article Committee rejects allowing homeless camps nearer homes (Oct. 31).

Kevin Dickens, the city’s deputy manager of social and health development, suggests keeping the encampments further away from residential areas has reduced the number of sites which has put his staff at physical risk. Does he not realize all public spaces must be safe for all citizens be they homeless, city employees or the general public and if it is not, then, some of our 800 peace officers must intervene.

The mayor needs to tell Dickens his job is to find remedies to any challenges, not scare council into making decisions on the basis of someone’s fear level.

Quit NATO

The new super power is China.
