Chase Brown’s NFL heater
London native Chase Brown posted career highs in carries, rushing yards and receptions in the Cincinnati Bengals’ 41-24 win over the Las Vegas Raiders in NFL action Sunday.
The former South Lion rushed for 120 yards on 27 carries and caught five passes for 37 yards and a touchdown in the Bengals’ first home victory of the season. He was elevated to starter status after a neck injury sidelined teammate Zack Moss.

The 24-year-old Brown left the game briefly with what was revealed Monday to be a bruised rib. He won’t have much time to recover with the Bengals (4-5) set to face the Baltimore Ravens (6-3) Thursday night.
London Knights goalie earns top rookie nod
London Knights goaltender Aleksei Medvedev was named the OHL’s rookie of the week after making 38 saves in a 2-1 overtime victory in Owen Sound Sunday.
The 17-year-old recorded his fifth OHL win in nine appearances and has a 5-2 record with a 2.89 goals against average and .912 save percentage in his first major junior season. The former St. Thomas Star hails from Vaughan and was selected by the Knights in the second round of the 2023 draft.
The 6-foot-1, 164-pounder is currently a C-rated prospect on NHL central scouting’s players to watch list for the 2025 draft.
Western Mustangs win lacrosse crown
The Western Mustangs claimed their second straight Baggataway Cup with an 11-3 win over Queen’s in the national university men’s lacrosse final this past weekend.
“It’s really hard to repeat, mostly because of the expectation and pressure we put on ourselves,” head coach Chris Standish said. “So it took a full season to re-learn how to be a championship team.”

Connor Murphy scored three times in the final while Max Brook and Chris Da Silva added a pair of goals each. Goalkeeper Fischer Stoltz made 11 saves on 14 shots.
Western roared back to beat previously undefeated McGill to reach the final again. Da Silva scored with just three seconds left in overtime to help his team advance.
Jacob Hickey led Western’s offence throughout the weekend with 13 goals combined in wins over McGill and Ottawa.
SPIRIT OF SPORT HONOUREES
The London sports hall of fame induction event will pay tribute to four local and area ‘Spirit of Sport’ honourees Thursday at the Hellenic Centre.
London Talons baseball president Wayne Bilger (volunteer of the year), Nor West Optimist soccer club volunteer Jennifer Jaquith (administrator of the year), Strathroy Holy Cross athletic director Cam Hagle (secondary schools coach of the year) and Joe Sanders at Riverside public school (elementary school coach of the year) have earned recognition for their contributions to local sports.
The London hall of fame’s 2024 class includes: champion drag racer Rob Atchison, late figure skating executive Bill Boland, curling organizer Peter Inch, Devilettes founder Jim Martin, international pistol shooter Helen Smith and CFL all-star Gerald Wilcox.
