Sarnia police have renewed a plea for help in tracking down a man wanted on armed robbery charges after police say another man was shot in the face and neck with a pellet gun.
Officers were called to East and Wellington streets about 2 p.m. Sept. 29 after two men clashed over an accusation that jewelry and a gold bar had been stolen, police said at the time. One man was injured by several shots from a pellet gun.
A suspect reportedly had been seen with a second handgun, but it wasn’t known if the second weapon was a real gun or another pellet gun, police said. The suspect fled after fighting with other occupants of an apartment building, who got one of the guns away from him.
The Glock-style pellet gun can appear real without a close inspection, police said.
Sections of East and Wellington streets were closed for a couple of hours amid the investigation.
Kevin Racette, 34, is wanted on charges of armed robbery, two counts each of assault with a weapon and pointing a firearm, and single counts of assault causing bodily harm, using an imitation firearm while committing an offence, carelessly using a firearm, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possessing a prohibited device or ammunition, possessing a firearm without authorization, discharging a firearm with intent, discharging an air gun or pistol with intent, and breaching bail, police said.
Racette is six-foot-five and about 220 pounds, they added.
In an update on social media last Wednesday, Sarnia police asked anyone who knows where he is to contact them at 519-344-8861, ext. 0, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
Do not approach or try to apprehend any wanted person, police cautioned.
