It’s a dangerous twist on an old form of Halloween mischief.
Vandals snatch pumpkins from porches and smash them in the days leading up to, and following, Oct. 31. But the Ontario Provincial Police are now seeking help after pumpkins were tossed from overpasses at tractor-trailers.
The first incident occurred Saturday around 2:30 a.m. when a pumpkin hit the windshield of a truck on Hwy. 401’s eastbound lanes near Old Victoria Road, causing extensive damage, Middlesex OPP said Tuesday.

About an hour later, there were two more reports of pumpkins striking trucks travelling east on Highway 402 near White Oak Road, police said.
“These dangerous and reckless acts pose a serious threat to public safety. Behaviours like this can result in collisions, serious injuries and even fatalities,” Ontario Provincial Police said in a statement.

Windsor police probe sexual assault
Windsor police are seeking the public’s assistance identifying a suspect wanted for sexual assault.
On Oct. 10 at about 10 p.m., a person was sexually assaulted outside the Ford Test Track in East Windsor. The assault was interrupted by a bystander in an older-model pickup truck with a rear window decal. Following the bystander’s intervention, the suspect fled the scene.
Police are urging the bystander to come forward as a witness, describing that person’s observations as invaluable to this investigation.
The suspect is described as a white male with a slender build, approximately six-foot-one, and 180 pounds with an olive complexion and unkempt brown facial hair. At the time of the incident, he wore blue light washed jeans, a black hooded sweatshirt, and white shoes. The suspect vehicle is described as a dark-coloured sedan.
