A third person charged in connection with a homicide at a west London apartment building has been arrested in the Maritimes.

London police alerted their counterparts in Saint John, N.B., on Sept. 27 that a woman wanted in the city’s fifth homicide of the year was believed to be in Canada’s oldest city.

A Canada-wide arrest warrant was issued for Jamie Lynn Bailey, 30, for accessory after the fact to murder in the death of Darko Lukic, 48, who died in hospital after he was found critically injured near his apartment building at 122 Base Line Rd. W. on July 20.

Saint John police arrested Bailey on Sept. 27 and transferred her to the custody of London police.

Bailey, who is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, is the third person charged in Lukic’s death and the second to be arrested on the east coast.

Police previously arrested Dauntae Johnson, 19, in August and obtained an arrest warrant for Joseph Veneau, 30. Both men are charged with second-degree murder.

Veneau was arrested in Halifax, N.S., two weeks later and returned to London.

Both men are additionally charged with assault with a weapon – Veneau faces two counts of the offence – for alleged attacks with a blunt object on the same day Lukic was fatally injured, according to court documents.

Investigators haven’t released Lukic’s cause of death but say he didn’t know his accused killers.

Terry Vuylsteke, a resident at the Base Line Road building, previously told The Free Press he saw two men pushing an unconscious Lukic from the building around 8:15 a.m. on July 20.

The men pushed the children’s wagon in which Lukic was laying face-up into a neighbouring townhouse complex and out of sight before an ambulance arrived a short time later, he said.

Friends and family have described Lukic, a father of two, as a friendly man who was known for small acts of kindness to his fellow residents in the geared-to-income building.

There have been seven homicides in London this year, compared to eight in all of 2023.
