There was a heavy police presence in London’s Old South neighbourhood Monday morning after a suspect was thought to be holed up inside a business following a break-in.

Police responded around 10 a.m. to a reported break-and-enter at Nova Sewing Centre at the corner of Wortley Road and Langarth Street East.

The glass front door of the business was shattered. Six police cruisers surrounded the building and officers were stationed at both entrances and exits.

The heavy police presence at the business, located near Wortley Road elementary school, drew a crowd of curious onlookers.

A police dog handler soon arrived and yelled instructions into the unlit building before entering.

“Police canine unit. If anybody is inside, come out now or you will be bit,” the officer shouted several times before going inside with his German Shepherd.

Two officers and the dog spent several minutes in the business before coming out.

No suspects had been arrested as of midday Monday, a police spokesperson said.
