An online fundraiser has been launched to support the family of a mother-of-five who was killed in a Southwestern Ontario motorcycle crash, which was followed by a bizarre melee that’s resulted in attempted murder charges against one man.

It was Sept. 14 when police say the five-vehicle crash happened on Highway 6 near Port Dover. Three motorcycles, a pickup truck and an SUV were involved in the collision, police said. Tiffany Barrer, 31, of Sudbury was on one of the motorcycles and was killed.

She’s survived by her partner, Eric Rainville, and five children. Rainville was injured in the crash and remained in hospital with serious injuries, according to Barrer’s sister, Meaghan Landry. The fundraising effort had raised more than $23,000 as of Monday morning.

A celebration of life is set for Sept. 27 in the northern Ontario community of Coniston. Barrer was “an avid lover of the outdoors,” her obituary states, adding she “loved surrounding herself with family and friends (even better if out at camp or in the garage.

“She spent her downtime on Dad’s boat, on Eric’s motorcycle, baking the best cakes, or planning their next crash derby. She was a devoted mother, and the first one to help anyone in need. The world will be at a loss without her in it.”

Police say that a bizarre melee occurred after the collision, with one driver stabbing a bystander with a knife – sending the bystander to hospital with serious injuries.

Brandon James Moore, 40, of Port Dover is charged with attempted murder, dangerous driving, dangerous driving causing death, dangerous driving causing bodily harm and possession of a weapon. He refused to participate in a virtual bail hearing in a Simcoe courtroom on Friday.
