Call it the Big Pour.
One hundred trucks, 500 loads, three suppliers and one continuous river of concrete flowing to a London development site until the work is done.
In one of the largest such construction pours in London’s history, Tricar Group is compressing into one massive job Saturday the slab foundation work for its newest development, an 11-storey apartment building with a two-floor underground garage in the city’s north end.

How much concrete are we talking about?
Enough to pour the foundations of 125 single-family homes, with the work completed in under 15 hours.
Doing the job in one shot, instead of in multiple stages, will reduce traffic disruptions and speed up the project’s construction, said Adam Carapella, Tricar’s vice president.
“It would be a couple of months between the (pouring) stages” if not for the one-shot approach, he said. “This was just more efficient to get it done quicker, and just gets us moving on with building the tower faster.”
Five concrete pumps will be used to distribute the concrete, 4,500 cubic metres in all, across the foundation for the development called The Grove Masonville.
The building, at 230 North Centre Rd., near Richmond Street, will feature 217 one- and two-bedroom apartments and is slated for occupancy in 2027.
The work is expected to begin at 7 a.m. on the pouring of the so-called “raft slab,” which is built with reinforcing steel beams.
Not just a huge construction job, the operation also required a lot of advance planning to co-ordinate the delivery and pumping of the concrete and get city hall approval for the work, which will result in the closing of North Centre Road between Richmond Street and Fanshawe Park Road from 1 a.m. Saturday until about 11 p.m.
Reduced traffic lanes will also be in place at Richmond through the North Centre Road intersection, city hall says. Transit users are advised to visit the London Transit Commission website for service updates and detours.
