Man surrenders after hours-long standoff at Strathroy home: Police

A man who barricaded himself inside a Strathroy home for several hours on Friday has surrendered to police.

Strathroy-Caradoc police, who had warned residents to stay away from the area, reopened Frank Street between Centre Street and Calendar Lane as the traditional workday was beginning. Police closed the roads after a man began throwing items from the home onto the street.

Police said they were called to the Frank Street home at about 2 a.m.

There was an argument between two people in the home and one person left, police said. The man inside was on release conditions to not be at the home, police said.

Motorcyclist dies in Norfolk County crash

A motorcyclist was killed in Waterford on Friday morning, police say.

Ontario Provincial Police in Norfolk County say the crash between the motorcycle and an SUV occurred on Thompson Road East. The motorcyclist died at the scene, police said.

The driver of the SUV suffered minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital, police said.

Thompson Road East was closed between Duncombe Road and Cockshutt Road as police investigated the collision. Police were asking drivers to avoid the area and seek different routes.

No further details, including the age or name of the motorcyclist, were made public.

Traffic levels in Norfolk County were expected to increase on Friday with thousands of motorcyclists expected to converge on Port Dover for the Friday the 13th motorcycle rally in the lakeside town.

Eight motorcyclists were killed on Southwestern Ontario roads over an eight-week period ending in early August. Ontario Provincial Police said that as of mid-July there had been 34 fatal motorcycle crashes provincewide – up from 23 during at the same point in 2023.
