A London financial advisor faces charges for allegedly defrauding clients out of nearly $2 million.

Police launched an investigation after a person reported investing a large sum of money with a financial advisor dating back to 2003 that went missing, police said Friday.

“The financial advisor was said to have collected investments from a number of people, however, did not invest the money obtained,” police said in a statement.

Investigators determined that 18 people were defrauded out of $1,988,000.

Robert Hawken, 66, of London is charged with fraud over $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. He was arrested Thursday and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 22.
