Drink more beer
It has taken me a while to understand why Premier Doug Ford has pushed so hard to get beer into corner stores.
The answer may be patriotism.
In a recent survey, based on per capita beer consumption, Canada doesn’t even rank in the Top 30. Czechia has been No. 1 for 30 years.
Whatever happened to Canadian pride in our beer? How do we now justify criticizing American beer?

Now, it might be that we no longer own a national brewery, or the Beer Store, for that matter.
So, come on Canada, go down to your convenience store, fill up your cart and turn on the TV. Suds R Us.

Better oversight
In recent history, Jackie Schleifer Taylor at London Health Sciences Centre, and now Mark Fisher at the Thames Valley District school board suddenly go on paid leaves.
Schleifer Taylor is no longer connected to LHSC and, if the trend continues, Fisher’s tenure could end the same way.
Both these organizations are funded by the taxpayers. yet, details not forthcoming.
LHSC and TVDSB governance – in the form of a board of directors or trustees – appear not to exercise their fiduciary duty to taxpayers.

Adding a salary
Regarding the article Old boss retakes helm at Thames Valley board (Sept. 11). With the current director of education being off work with pay, it is disappointing no one from within the Thames Valley District school board could fill this role, rather then going outside and creating yet another position.
Bill Tucker obviously is more then qualified, however, his additional salary only will add to the budget crunch.
