The largest show on the Delaware Speedway calendar is bigger once more.

The annual NASCAR Canada Series stop, which was postponed three weeks ago due to inclement weather, was added to the Sunday of the Great Canadian Race Weekend that revs up Friday night.

“The weather (for Aug. 17) looked brutal with lots of rain coming,” track owner Luke Ramsay said. “There was 100 per cent chance of rain and there’s a lot of costs associated with teams coming from Quebec and other parts of Canada to get here. In talking to NASCAR, we thought it was in everybody’s best interests to reschedule because the racers would rather run in front of full crowds than nobody there.

“Those guys coming back to this weekend, the original date, really gets it to what it had been the past few years.”

Series ironman DJ Kennington has enjoyed another consistent season and has moved up to fourth place in the points standings. He has five victories and eight podium finishes in 11 previous NASCAR races in the No. 17 Castrol Edge Dodge at his home track.

“He will also run the 300 (Castrol 300 APC pro late model series race) Saturday, as well,” Ramsay said. “We have 30 cars registered so we’re expecting a large car count. (APC series leader and defending champ) Kyle Steckly will run both races, too. Ryan Dyson will run the super stock Friday, then NASCAR race Sunday.”

Chesley’s Josh Stade, who has taken part in every APC late model series race during 10 seasons, will continue his streak. Multi-time champions Brandon Watson and JR Fitzpatrick also will return to the series at Delaware.

The hot rods, late models and modifieds also will run Saturday. A decision on Friday’s card – super stocks championship, V8 stocks and bone stocks – will be made in the afternoon.

“It’s been a great year at the track,” Ramsay said. “Obviously, the weather has been terrible. We’ve had five rainouts and when you only get about 25 nights in a season, you can’t really add dates. It’s tough to add more events, but we were able to do it here moving the NASCAR series to this Sunday.”
