London man charged after alert tipster spots gun in waistband, calls police

A London man is facing 10 charges, weapons offences among them, after a downtown arrest turned up guns including a sawed-off shotgun and more than $13,000 in illegal drugs.

London police say a man was getting ready to enter a taxi about 12:45 p.m. Sunday in the 700 block of Waterloo Street when a bystander saw a handgun tucked into his waistband and alerted police.

The man was found, arrested and searched, police said, adding that they found a sawed-off shotgun, four replica handguns, a stun gun, drugs and a weigh scale and about $1,600 in cash.

A 44-year-old man is charged with three counts of possessing a firearm contrary to a prohibition order, possession of a banned or restricted weapon and other offences including drug possession for the purpose of trafficking.

The man was to appear in court in London on Wednesday on the charges, police said.

One dead in Southwestern Ontario crash

A 33-year-old Brantford resident has died following a three-vehicle collision near Dunnville.The name of the deceased has not been made public.

Haldimand County OPP, firefighters and paramedics were sent to Haldimand Road 17 at about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday to investigate a report of a collision involving a minivan, pickup truck and sedan.

Police said Tuesday that a Brantford resident who was driving the sedan was taken to hospital and later pronounced dead.

The driver of the pickup truck sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital, police said.

Haldimand Road 17 between Jarden Road and Burke Road was expected to remain closed for several hours as police investigated.
