Londoner David Mendham was named the MVP of the Frontier League’s 31st all-star game in the West division’s 2-1 victory over the East on Wednesday at Quebec City.
The 25-year-old infielder went 2-for-3 with a double and scored the game’s opening run.
The Catholic Central grad is hitting .327 with three home runs and 29 runs batted in for the Evansville Otters in Indiana so far this season. Evansville has a record of 21-36 on the season.
The Frontier League bills itself as the longest continuously operating independent professional baseball league in the world. It’s a 16-team loop that includes such clubs as the Washington Wild Things, the Joliet Slammers and the Quebec Capitales.
Mendham previously starred for the Oklahoma State Cowboys in the NCAA ranks. In his final season there, 2022-23, he ranked fifth in the Big 12 Conference with 63 runs batted in, eighth with 14 home runs, and 11th with 76 hits while carrying a .312 batting average in 61 games.

Mendham graduated with a degree in university studies and a minor in sociology before his pro career took him to Evansville.
In an LFP interview last summer, he expressed optimism about succeeding in pro ball.
“You really just wait and hope a team signs you,” he said. “So you stay ready to play. I’ve had a handful of organizations reach out, but it’s still early.”
In 2020, he was named the top Canadian player in NCAA baseball by the Canadian Baseball Network. That season, he’d batted .493 with 36 hits and 26 RBIs in 21 games for the Connors State Cowboys in Warner, Okla. The season was shortened by COVID-19.
